Meet Shane O'Neill
Candidate for Carleton Place Town Council

Meet your candidate for Carleton Place Town Council

My name is Shane O’Neill and I’m running for the position of Councillor with the Town of Carleton Place.

Our community deserves a voice for young families. A voice that reflects the modern challenges facing the families in our growing community, and more broadly in Lanark County.

I’m a 37 year old married father and dog owner. My wife Sarah and I have called Carleton Place home since arriving in 2022. We welcomed our first daughter to our growing family last summer.

During the day, I work in sales with a tour operator in Ireland and the UK. But, like countless others, I’ve worked in many jobs over my career, including as writer, news reporter, management consultant and years as a shift supervisor with the Beer Store.

In short, I’m a dad and a worker.

I grew up in Kanata and played hockey in the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League throughout elementary and high school. I’m an avid paddler and skier and could not be more excited to raise our family in Carleton Place.

Since moving to our home just up the street from Riverside Park, I’ve been involved in our community like so many of our neighbours, attending events and taking in shows by the Mississippi Muds. Since 2023, I’ve been a volunteer member of the Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee.

I believe that young families need a bigger seat at the table in our town and in Lanark County. With your support, I will bring my experience and perspective to advocate for everyone in our community. To preserve and enhance the services provided by our extraordinary small town, and ensure the cost of living is managed effectively by our municipal government.

Shane O'Neill. 2026.

Community Member and Volunteer

I'm a blood donor, father and volunteer in Carleton Place. You may have seen me walking my dog down Bridge Street, or with a stroller at Riverside Park.

For the past four years I have served on the Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee here in Carleton Place, where I have acted as secretary and interim chair.

My knowledge of the town's bylaws, municipal government and public financing put me in a unique position to contribute as Councillor and speak up on issues that directly impact young families, homeowners, and renters in our town.

I love Carleton Place. With your vote, I will be your voice at Town Hall and help to ensure our community remains safe, affordable and an incredible place to raise a young family.
